SoHE Student Spotlighted for Prairie Exhibit
SoHE Design Studies graduate student Liz Anna Kozik delves into the UW-Madison Arboretum with the installation of her new exhibit “Stories in the Land.”Kozik has created full-length comics, tapestries and wooden signs to tell the story of UW’s Curtis Prairie, the first restored prairie in the world.

Design Faculty Member Recognized for Excellence
Recognized as an inspiration to students, SoHE Assistant Faculty Associate Maria Kurutz received a 2017 Honored Instructor this past week from the UW Housing residents. She was nominated by students who noted that Maria consistently leaves an impact through her way of teaching. “Maria Kurutz is very patient, helpful, flexible, and open-minded,” states a student nominator. “I feel really lucky to have such a responsible and informative instructor like Maria.”
4w Event with Dr. Shiva
On April 27th, Vandana Shiva, Ph.D., an internationally recognized activist in agriculture, gender, property rights and environment, presented the keynote address for the three-day 2017 4W Summit on Women, Gender and Well-being. Members of the 4W leadership circle joined Dr. Shiva for lunch to discuss her work and related campus activities, including SoHE professors Connie Flanagan and Patty Loew, graduate students Molly Clark-Barol and Becca Dower, 4W Director Lori DiPrete Brown, and six other members of the 4W leadership circle. The Women & Wellbeing in Wisconsin & the World initiative is jointly convened by the School of Human Ecology, the Global Health Institute, and the Gender & Women’s Studies Department.
