Funding Opportunities

UW Office of the Provost: Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Pre-Proposals are due November 11, 2019. SoHE faculty planning to submit a pre-proposal are asked to notify Sarah Marcotte, SoHE pre-award research administrator for planning purposes and budgetary pre-review. Proposals are submitted through a campus submission system and must be routed to the submitting faculty member’s Department Chair.

UW Global Health Institute: The UW Global Health Institute (GHI) application period is now open for its 2020 grants and awards. This competitive grant program is designed to support global health efforts of faculty, staff and graduate students across campus, fostering the Wisconsin Idea locally and globally. Seed Grant applications require a letter of intent by December 20, 2019. Grant applications are due January 27, 2020. Refer to the program website for additional information, timelines, and FAQs about the grant program.

The Retirement Research Foundation: The RRF invites brief Letters of Inquiry (LOI) that align with their strategic priority areas, including Caregiving, Housing, Economic Security in Later Life, and Social and Intergenerational Connectedness. LOIs are due December 1, 2019. See the RRF announcement or refer to their website for information about the LOI, including geographic limitations for certain priority areas. National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE): NEFE’s Research Funding Program furthers the field of financial education through interdisciplinary research. Grants are awarded to projects with actionable outcomes that are directly relevant to the financial well-being of the public and broadly applicable to a variety of U.S. households or individuals. Research proposals are due December 3, 2019.  Refer to the proposal guidelines for more information.

Training and Educational Opportunities

  • UW Education and Social and Behavioral Science (ED/SBS) IRB: The upcoming session Consent Considerations will review in detail each of the consent processes that may be used when conducting research. Also discussed will be the most frequent errors seen by IRB Staff when reviewing consent forms and documents, and how to avoid those errors. The session will be held December 4, 2019 from 10:00 AM to -11:00 AM in Lathrop Hall Room B137. Register via this link.

  • Guidance: Our campus’s approach to research security continues to evolve as federal agencies and regulators consider the importance of secure, transparent research activities. See the joint blog post from theChancellor and VCRGE leadership team.  The post explains the issues and outlines changes to campus reporting requirements related to connections with foreign institutions and reporting research funding that does not flow through UW-Madison.
