Funding Opportunities for the week of June 8-12, 2020

Joyce Foundation supports grants focusing on advancing racial equity and economic mobility for the next generation in the Great Lakes region. The Foundation concentrates on initiatives that promise to have an impact across the region and/or within the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Topic areas include i) Culture, ii) Democracy, iii) Education & Economic Mobility, iv) Environment, and iv) Gun Violence Prevention & Justice Reform. Letters of Intent (LOI) must be submitted no later than June 24. Meritorious LOI will be invited to submit a full proposal for the August 5 deadline.

The Spencer Foundation’s Small Research Grants Program supports education research projects that will contribute to the improvement of education, broadly conceived, with budgets up to $50,000 for projects ranging from one to five years. The program aims to support rigorous, intellectually ambitious and technically sound research that is relevant to the most pressing questions and compelling opportunities in education. We seek to support scholarship that develops new foundational knowledge that may have a lasting impact on educational discourse. Methodological diversity is welcome, including quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, ethnographies, design-based research, participatory methods, and historical research. Applications are due July 1, 2020 at 12:00PM CDT.

American Family Insurance has partnered with UW–Madison through the American Family Insurance Data Science Institute (DSI) to offer multiple mini grants of $75-150K per year; all faculty are eligible to apply. The goal of this American Family Funding Initiative is to stimulate and support cutting-edge, highly innovative and groundbreaking research in the rapidly growing field of data science, including behavioral economics and applied cognitive science.

WI Humanities Council Major Grants Program funds projects across the state, in communities of all sizes, for participants of all ages and backgrounds. Funded projects include museum exhibits, book discussions, lecture series, guided tours, humanities festivals, oral history projects, teacher institutes, and various other programs. WHC does not fund individual research or the creation of artwork, including workshops focusing on the craft of writing. Projects must involve experts in ways that bring diverse and balanced perspectives. Projects must be designed for a general audience (i.e. not a college or university audience). Major grant awards are up to $10,000 and require a 1:1 match. Applications are due August 15.

Greater Milwaukee Community Foundation offers three grant cycles each year for projects up to one year in duration. Geographically, funding for the discretionary grantmaking program is limited to projects that will significantly improve the lives of people living in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties. Cycle 3 priority includes Healthy Birth Outcomes. Applications are due August 28.

National Institutes of Health (NIH) offers Career Development opportunities for investigators who strive to expand their research trajectories through the acquisition of new knowledge and skills in the areas of basic psychological processes, sociological processes, and/or biomedical pathways—expertise that is beyond and enhances their current areas of expertise. This award is intended for well-established investigators who have established records of independent, peer-reviewed Federal or private research grant funding. The next due date for both opportunities is March 17, 2021.
