Staff Roles & Qualifications

Research has shown staff qualifications and training affect the quality of programming for children.  Individuals trained in Early Childhood Education and child development generally do a better job with children than those who do not have this specialized training.

Preschool Administrators


Preschool Director
Jill Riley
The Director has oversight responsibilities for the entire program.   The Director is required to have a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field, and five or more years of prior teaching and administrative experience. The Director is responsible for enrollment, staff supervision, financial management, and the day-to-day operations of the program. Jill has been with the Preschool Lab since 2000. Prior to that, she was a Curriculum Director, and Preschool and Kindergarten teacher.  Jill has been in the field for over 30 years. She has a BS degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education from Edgewood College.


Assistant Directors

The Assistant Directors provide back up to the Administrator and serve as part of the management team.

Paula Evenson
Paula  joined the Preschool Lab in June 2009. She has a BS degree from UW-Milwaukee in Adult Education, including early education coursework. Her past experience includes directing, teaching, early childhood policy analysis, consulting and training. She has worked in the field since 1992 including 5 years as the Mineral Point Road site administrator.


Terri Strother

Terri joined the Preschool Lab in 2001. She has a Child & Family Studies degree from UW-Madison. Her past experience includes teaching and administration including 2 years as Assistant Director at LaPetite Academy. She has worked in the early childhood field since 1994.

Float Teachers

Float Teachers substitute teach in each classroom when needed and assist with certain administrative tasks as available.
