Inspired by Day of the Dead traditions, the Remembrance and Celebration 2018 Community Altar Project is on display in the SoHE building main entry until November 6. Free wooden boxes were given out to the community to decorate. Over 60 altars honoring people, pets and more were created by individuals for this group exhibit, which is inspired by altar-making traditions in Oaxaca, Mexico. The altars included photos of loved ones, decorative paintings, candles, flowers, and even chocolate, measuring tape, and perfume.
A free reception with story sharing and a Mexican dance troupe is Nov. 1, 4:30-6:30pm. The project is headed by Professor Carolyn Kallenborn with assistance from students in her DS 270: Design & Fashion Event course.
