As part of the programming for UNPACKED: Refugee Baggage, the UW Center for Community and Nonprofit Studies (the “CommNS”) and the Center for Design and Material Culture will co-host a special “CommUniversity” session on March 5th, 2020, focused on the intersection of the nonprofit sector and the refugee experience. In this discussion, we’ll learn more from panelists with firsthand perspective about the work of global nongovernmental organizations in providing assistance to refugees, the ways local nonprofits support refugees settling in communities, and the experiences of refugees and volunteers in these efforts. Panelists include Yael Schacher, Senior U.S. Advocate with Refugees International, and Becca Schwartz, Resettlement Director with Jewish Social Services Madison.

Please visit the Lynn Mecklenburg Textile Gallery anytime between 5 and 6 p.m. that evening and then join us for this engaging discussion starting at 6 p.m. in Room 1199 Nancy Nicholas Hall. Ian’s pizza will be served!
