Design 2016: Juried Student Exhibit
April 1 – April 22, 2016
DESIGN 2016: Annual Juried Exhibition. A tradition since 1992, this is an opportunity for students who have taken UW Design Studies or Landscape Architecture coursework to display their work. The exhibition features a variety of undergraduate and graduate student works created this past academic year. Six financial prizes were awarded during the opening reception on Friday, April 1.

Best Concept: Lydia Renshaw, Restaurant Design Project – Ivy Restaurant
Best Technique: Aaron Kellerhuis, Plaid Shirt Project
Best Concept to Execution: Andie Gechtman, Sustainable Handmade Paper and Laser Cut Clutch
Best Presentation: Nick Gutowski, Restaurant Design, Penthouse
Honorable Mention: Krista Neerdaels, (Sea)nario Restaurant
Honorable Mention: Allison Dineen, Office of the Registrar Design

All work was selected by a jury of local of designers with a diverse set of professional practice and experience: They are: John Uzee, Briony Foy, and Amy Duwell Brockdorf.
John Uzee explores how messages, visuals, sequences, and spaces can imprint a brand experience. His design work and lectures focus on the interplay of Branding, Marketing, Interior Design and Architecture. He is currently based in Madison after 27 years in Boston where he was Principal at ADD Inc, a 200+ person architectural firm.
Amy Duwell Brockdorf, LEED AP, is an interior design professional and alumni of the program at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She started her high-end residential practice in 2009, following her position with a small architectural firm that focused on information design and wayfinding consultation for large hospital systems.
Briony Jean Foy received her M.F.A in Textile Design from the UW in 2001. She has exhibited internationally and is a recipient of a Wisconsin Arts Board Fellowship, among other awards. Foy taught fiber and design classes at the University of Wisconsin- Madison and Milwaukee. She has also led workshops at Penland, Arrowmont, Peters Valley, Split Rock, and Peninsula Art Schools. She is currently working as a full time studio artist in Madison playing with fiber and ceramics.
About the Design Gallery
Each academic semester the Design Gallery organizes a major curated exhibition related to a design topic followed by showcase installations of Design Studies student creative work at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
