Interdisciplinary Studies Internship Programs
The Interdisciplinary Studies Internship Program develops relationships with internship sites, helps students find internships, and enhances the internship through learning experiences such as writing assignments and meetings. The internship coordinator is available throughout the internship to answer questions and address challenges that may arise.
FAMILY, CONSUMER & COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Both program options, Teacher Certification and Community Leadership, include credit-earning educational internships. These can be arranged in specialized settings to advance particular career goals. In the Teacher Certification option, overseas student teaching may be scheduled in addition to that in Wisconsin. Many other internship placements are available in formal education settings and formal settings including communities and businesses.
Students in Inter-HE are required to complete 8 credits of internship / 300 hours of work at the internship site and completing class assignments.
How to set up your internship
Application Process:
All preparation is done a semester prior to completing an internship
1. Review Internship Preparation guide
2. Submit Internship Application by August 15th for fall to room 135 SoHE or e-mail to bahvala@wisc.edu (you do NOT have to have your internship secured to submit this application)
3. Research Internship Opportunities / Apply for internship:
- Start with Master Site List (pdf)
- please note: we try to keep information up-to-date. However contact person / address can change. Make sure you follow up with a phone call if you e-mail the site of your interest.
- Check Morgridge Center http://www.morgridge.wisc.edu/
- Search online (i.e. www.idealist.org )

4. Write Internship Proposal.
5. Submit Internship Proposal (described in detail in the Prep Guide), Internship Agreement, Resume and Cover Letter by May 2nd for summer / by September 2nd for fall
- After your application is approved, you will receive an e-mail from internship coordinator with registration instructions. All permissions will be entered after the deadline. Thus you will be able to register for the class only after May 2nd (if your application is approved).
- If you are not sure that this internship will qualify, check with your internship coordinator
6. Attend Internship Orientation Session. You will be notified about the date and time via an e-mail from your Internship Coordinator.
Summer 2008 Application Deadline - May 1st, 2008.
Fall 2008 application deadline is September 5th.
No application will be considered after the deadline. No exceptions.

The application must be typed. Handwritten applications will not be accepted.
