How to set up your internship:
attend a Prep Session OR follow the following guidelines:
1. Register for BuckyNet: http://www.bus.wisc.edu/career/student/
Buckynet is the password-protected, web-based information system used by the SoHE / Business Career Center (BCC) to manage all aspects of the recruiting program including on-campus recruiting, job postings, student resumes (resume book), and career events.
- Attend 30-minute orientation session (see the dates: http://www.bus.wisc.edu/career/student/bccnet/orientation/);
- or stop by BCC office any time to watch orientation DVD
- Complete your profile and sign the registration contract.
2. Create your resume / cover letter:

- Resume Samples for SoHE Majors
- Use walk-in resume critique in SoHE: Th., 2-4 pm; room 135 SoHE or e-mail to SAA office at acadaffairs@mail.sohe.wisc.edu;
- Upload your resume to BuckyNet.
3. Learn about specific internship requirement for your major, such as hour and credit requirements, application deadlines, assignments etc. http://www.sohe.wisc.edu/new/undergraduates/u-internship.html .
4. Attend Career Related Workshops:
Business Basics Seminar Series conducted through SoHE / BCC: http://www.bus.wisc.edu/career/student/events/
Topics include: Resume and Cover Letter Writing; Successful Interviewing; Making the Most of the Career Expo; How to Research a Company; Study Abroad Information Session; Networking, etc.
5. Clarify your career goals and / or explore different career opportunities. Define what type of internship you are seeking.
6. Attend Career Fair(s) September and February Career Fairs; Personal Finance Career Fair. Hand out your resume and talk to employers about internship opportunities with their organizations.
7. Join student organizations - these are excellent opportunities for networking with professionals!
8. Monitor internship opportunities using BuckyNet.
9. If you are interested in a specific company – check their web-site for internship positions.
10. Use your contacts (faculty–mentors, instructors, co-workers, family, friends, relatives etc).
11. Identify internship opportunities. Compile a list of organizations that meet your criteria. Apply.
12. Research each organization before applying. Be sure to include specific information on why you want to work for that organization in your cover letter.
13. Prepare for interviews. Take time to thoroughly research organizations before interviewing with them. Interviewers are very impressed with interviewees who know a lot about their organization.

15. Submit internship application form by the deadline to 135 SoHE after you secure your internship
Summer 2008 Application Deadline - May 1st, 2008.
Fall 2008 application deadline is September 5th.
The application must be typed. Handwritten applications will not be accepted.
No application will be considered after the deadline
- After your application is approved, you will receive an e-mail from internship coordinator with registration instructions. All permissions will be entered after the deadline. Thus you will be able to register for the class only after application deadline if your application is approved.
- If you are not sure that this internship will qualify, check with your internship coordinator
- Signature on the application form for out-of-town students
- You can e-mail your filled out application form to the company and have them e-mail it back to your internship coordinator as a “virtual” signature.
- You can U.S. mail your form and have them mail it back.
- You can fax your form to SAA office (fax 608-265-3616)
You can also use any combination of the choices above.
- Attend Internship Orientation Session. You will be notified about the date and time via an e-mail from your Internship Coordinator.
