A Photo of a Family

Center for Excellence in Family Studies

The Center was established in 1989 to facilitate the interaction of family researchers and policymakers, support family outreach by faculty and students, and foster interdisciplinary family research.  The School of Human Ecology is currently in the process of redefining the Center by developing a new vision of its mission and activities. Although the Center has been the catalyst for much good work in the areas of family resiliency and policy, it has the potential to contribute much more to the development of family scholarship and its practical application  in the 21st century.

The aim is to bring a dynamic, new approach to family scholarship focused on the intersection of research and practice and to build the financial resources the Center needs to accomplish its mission. The plan is to have a center that will have both state and national impacts on the conduct of family research, practice, programs, and policymaking.
