Nellie Kedzie Jones,
extension home economist (1858-1956)
Nellie Kedzie Jones's
favorite saying, "As the stream can flow no higher than its
fountain, so no country can be better than its home," demonstrates
her belief in the importance of improving the homemaking skills
of rural women for the sake of the health and happiness of the
young women, their families, and society. It was her faith in
the ability of science-based home economics to improve people's
lives that guided her long and remarkably successful career as
a home economics educator, fifteen years of which she served as
State Leader for Home Economics
Extension in Wisconsin.
