After earning her BS in home economics (1953) and her MS in Clothing and Textiles (1958) from UW, Ruth Diez served the people of Wisconsin for twenty-five years in her position with Home Economics Extension, later Family Living Education. She carried out her task of interpreting research in textiles and clothing for the people of Wisconsin with dedication. In the many extension bulletins and teaching materials she produced, she presented information on topics such as the flammability of children's sleepwear, laundry techniques, and clothing for the physically disabled.

Diez was also an early user of the Educational Television Network, which allowed extension specialists to reach out to many more home agents than they could have in person. She served on many administrative committees while at UW, and was a member of the planning committee for College Week for Women for seventeen years.
