Professor Apple is faculty in Women’s Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies in Human Ecology; affiliate in the Department of the History of Medicine and Science and Technology Studies Program.
She received her B.A. (Mathematics), from New York University; and an M.A. (History of Science), and Ph.D. (History of Medicine), from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Positions at other institutions include Visiting Academic, Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine, London, UK, fall 1997; Visiting Professor, University of Umeå. Sweden, summer 1995; and Visiting Researcher, University of Trondheim, Norway, 1992-1996. Visiting Researcher, University of Auckland, New Zealand, summer 1999. She is former co-editor of Advancing the Consumer Interest, a publication of the American Council on Consumer Interests, and is co-editor of the monograph series Women and Health in Culture and Society with Ohio State University Press. Among her recent awards are a University of Wisconsin Vilas Associateship, 1996-98; and a Burroughs Wellcome Grant, 1996; she was named the ACOG-Ortho Fellow in the History of American Obstetrics and Gynecology, by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 1996 and received the University of Wisconsin School of Human Ecology Alumni Faculty Professional Excellence Award, 1999.
